I know that in a previous post I mentioned that there would be a release this Sunday, but I’m afraid I’m going to have to push that deadline back some more. I was sidetracked dealing with the DMCA notice, and a failed attempt to obtain a vogue.
Regardless, significant progress has been made, and I think some of the progress is mature enough to release, hopefully. I’ve been working all weekend on getting everything packed together, but apparently, that isn’t enough.
To demo some of the new features, I’ve released nueLED-preview1 and nueWhiteLEDTest to the donator area. Now, nueLED is probably a misnomer, because it currently only consists of a replacement backlight driver. Nevertheless, it is a backlight driver that condenses the 90kb HTC driver into a small 8kb package that is much faster. To install it, you need to have dot fred task manager, and follow these instructions:
1. In .fred task manager, go to devices, and find BKL1:. Stop the device.
2. Copy nueLED.dll to “\windows” on your phone. If you have nueLED installed on your phone, you might need to rename it to something like nueBKL.dll
3. Double tap the BKL1: driver, and go to find in registry. For the “DLL” registry key, change the entry from “allledmgr.dll” to “nueled.dll”, or whatever you named it.
4. Go back to the devices tab, and press start on BKL1: again.
If you turn on/off your phone, you should see the new fading effect that is similar to the one on the diamond. The keyboard light sensor is not yet supported, nor are the keypad lights (the red/green phone lights). Once I figure out how to interface with them that should be working.
To disable the driver, change the registry entry back to allledmgr.dll and restart the service again.
nueWhiteLEDTest is just an app that demonstrates the white LED notification for the left LED. You don’t need nueLED for it to work, it interfaces directly with the hardware. Just drop nueTest.exe and run it, your left notification LED will turn white for about 3 seconds.
Other things that I have been working on include enabling that stupid bug reporting system, and getting that updater completely running.
I know that some of you have been anxiously waiting for a new release, sorry it didn’t come through today…. Hopefully these preview things will give you a taste of what is to come…
Also, I have my hands on a Diamond, and hopefully I will be picking up a Raphael sooner or later, so whatever advancements I’ve been making will be ported onto these newer devices.
